Back in July I decided to try out this free iPod through referral thing here. Like most people, I was skeptical that it would work. About a month a bit later I had all my needed referrals, my account was approved and in a couple days they shipped me a free iPod (pictures will be posted in the next post). Since then, many others have received their free iPods and hopefully many more will--at least that's what Robi is hoping by joining this conga line. 

These are the basics:

1. If you're a US, Canadian or UK citizen, sign up to FreePay's free iPod here and be a referral for one of our members.


2. Complete an offer with one of FreePay's affiliated marketers. This is basically signing up for a trial period of a certain product or service (e.g. Columbia House, Online Poker, etc...). I didn't pay anything. If you end up paying something, it'll probably not be more than $25, which is much less than the $300 for an iPod.


3. Once you're signed on, send us your name a referral link here and we'll add you to the conga line.


4. When you get 5 people to be your referral an your completed offer is verified, FreePay will ship you a free iPod from one of their partnered merchants.

Many of you possibly have heard about getting free iPods through a referral program but were immediately dubious of its legitimacy. This blog is a conga line for the believers and recently converted who want that little extra help to complete their referrals and get a free Apple iPod. Help Ivana, Janis, Gabriel, Jay, Zhan or Eric get a free iPod by being their referral and you will be added to the conga line. After clicking on the referral link of one of our conga line's members, complete your offer (usually a trial of a certain service like dvd rentals or something of that nature) and email your name, free iPod referral link and the name of who you were a referral for to be added to the list. The conga line may not get you all the needed referrals (5 in all) but members will attest that it can give you needed push to get a little closer.

So I found a really good site with lots of information and forums on getting a free iPod from freeipods.com:

Basically, Canadians weren't receiving their free iPods. For a moment my fears of it being a scam or at least impossible for Canadians to get a free iPod became reality. It turns out that Gratis (the company that runs ") hadn't realized that people would pay taxes once the iPods would go over the border. It's a typical small company mistake to not look into such things. But, the fact remained that if people would be paying taxes, the iPod would no longer be free. Luckily, they've solved the problem by finding a Canadian iPod merchant and, as of last week :), people in Canada can get a free iPod!

Well, everyone's going crazy for iPods. TD Canada is offering a free iPod Shuffle to anyone who opens a chequing acount with them. Sounds easy enough. I don't think I'll try it but I know somebody who is so I'll document how that goes (although there probably won't be much to say since I don't think they'll make it to hard to gt your free iPod).

The "Free iPod Experiment" is still going. Referrals are coming in slow but it hasn't even been 24 hrs so I'm not worried. So I decided to try this "free iPod" thing I heard about but could never try since it was only open to US residents. Now the FreeiPods.com referral program is open to Canadian and UK residents also. Getting a free iPod through internet referrals sounds a lot like a scam but supposedly it isn't according to a lot of articles you can find (I doubt they were all created by FreeiPods.com). Even spoke to a couple people who've participated and actually received a free iPod. Took a while to be delivered but I guess you can't be too picky since its technically "free". BTW, I don't work for FreeiPods.com, just very curious to know if this actually works. Don't even want an iPod that badly :P

You can subscribe and try getting a free iPod yourself by following this link: FreeiPods.com. And it ain't no Shuffle, you can get yourself a 20gig iPod or a mini if it strikes your fancy.

As the more perceptive or internet savvy have noticed, if you click that link and actually go through with the process (subscribe and sign-up with one of the sponsors) you will effectively become one of my referrals and bring me a little closer to getting a free iPod. You're probably asking yourself why you should be helping me get a free iPod. The answer isn't easy. I deal with affiliates, affiliate programs and internet marketing on a daily basis as a marketing director for a company that derives a large proportion of its sales via the web. A lot of affiliates are always afraid of getting screwed--of bringing in business or contacts and getting them stolen or not getting remunerated for them. What I always answer to that is that you need to have a sort of mutual trust. Both parties depend on each other for something and should be looking at the long-term. It makes no sense for my company to screw an affiliate because they'll ultimately find out and stop bringing you business. The continued flow of new business is much more valuable then a few freebee leads. My example may not apply perfectly if you look at the free iPod as my goal since after I get my free iPod I have no use of more referrals (I'm limited to one), but if you look at this more as my experiment it makes a much better paragon. My goal is to see how many people can get a free iPod through this blog.

My proposal is that if you become a confirmed referral, I'll feature you on the site. Heck, I bet I'll end up putting up your link even if you don't become a confirmed referral. After subscribing, just send me an email here with your coded referral link and first name and I'll feature you in the blog to help you get your free iPod. It's gonna be a first-come first serve, so the first five (5) confirmed referrals get featured first. Hopefully it'll follow a First-In-First-Out system. Once I get 5 referrals, then my first confirmed referral becomes the main link and others follow in the same pattern.

The problem that arises is that the number of referrals will grow exponentially and that it'll probably get out of hand at a certain point. Hopefully I can devise some sort of system to feature as many people as possible as soon as possible wit hout there being too many and making sure that people get an equal chance of getting referred and getting their free iPod. What I would hope is that people will contact me as soon as possible when they get a confirmed referral so that I can increment their referral count and ultimately remove them when all their referrals are obtained. Once again, just keep me posted by emailing here with your coded referral link and first name. 

On a last note, I would not try fraud. Don't create an account for your 2 year old sister with your grandma's address; FreeiPods.com heavily scrutinizes all entries. Good luck!
